Newsletter: WatERP contributes to a potential saving of 20% of energy consumption

By applying a novel energy management strategy to the water distribution networks, a suitable pumping scheduling that permits to increment energy savings is achieved. WatERP applies cognitive intelligence to learn from operational situations in order to achieve energy savings. Specifically, the learning is performed by finding right cases that accomplish minimum energy consumption based on the similarity between past and forecasted daily demands.

WatERP presentation to ONGAWA


Last September 17th, our partner INCLAM made a presentation of WatERP project to ONGAWA Engineering for Human Developement, an NGO devoted to put technology at the service of human development to build a more fair and caring society.

This meeting was atended by a technician from the water management team and one municipal councellor in Manhiça (Mozanbique), one technician from the municipal water company in Nicaragua, a civil engineer workin for ONGAWA in Manhiça (Mozambique) and one responsible for ONGAWA in Nicaragua. 

Apart from introducing the project objectives and activities to the assistants, it was discussed the possibility of applying the WatERP platform in countries without technological developments.

WatERP at EFTA 2014


Last 16th September, WatERP project was present at the EFTA 2014, the 19th IEEE International Conference on Emerging Technologies and Factory Automation. This year, the conference was devoted to the world of automation and control in water systems and the project WatERP was presented to the assistants highlighting the main activities, objectives and work done so far.

Paper presentation at the HIC 2014


Taking advantage of the 11th International Conference on Hydroinformatics (HIC2014) entitled "Informatics and the Environment: Data and Model Integration in a Heterogeneours Hydro World” held in New York (USA) during 17th-21st of August, 2014, WatERP project presented the paper “Integration of Water Supply Distribution Systems by using Interoperable Standards to Make Effective Decisions”.

Standardization of Water Data Exchange workshop


Providing standardization experiences,  WatERP presents work and know-hows regarding OGC© OWS (OGC© SOS, OGC© WPS, OGC© WMS & OGC© WFS), WaterML2.0, semantics and ontologies on  the workshop "Standardization of Water Data Exchange: WaterML2.0 and Beyond” organized by the  Hydrology Domain Working Group of the Open Geospatial Consortium and the World Meteorological Organization.

ICT4water cluster event in Brussels


On the 15th of July, a special ICT session and clustering event took place in Brussels. WatERP project took part on the event together with the EC DG CONNECT officer at this ICT4water cluster event.

Paper presentation at the WDSA Conference


Last 14th-16th of July, it took place in Bari, Italy the 16th International WDSA Conference. During the event, WatERP project presented the peer reviewed paper “Towards an enhanced knowledge-based Decision Support System (DSS) for Integrated Water Resource Management (WRM)”.

Stakeholders consultation


The European Commission has invited stakeholders to share their insights and recommendations for 2016-2017 structured around seven questions listed in a consultation paper. More especifically, stakeholders are being consulted for the *Horizon 2020 Societal Challenge 5* "Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials".

We are proud to confirm that, some days ago, WatERP project has sent to the Commission its contributions to this consultation.

Stadtwerke Weißenfels meets WatERP


On the 19th of June, 2014, Andreas Korth fro TZW presented the idea of WatERP project to the management of Stadtwerke Weißenfels. During the meeting, Andreas presented the objectives of the project as well as the progress so far.
